Abraham Solomon Baylinson (1882-1950).
Nude at the Window with a Bird in a Cage. 1939.
Oil on canvas, size 92 x 77 cm (36 1/4 x 30 1/3 inches). Frame dimensions 105 x 89 cm (41 1/3 x 35 inches).
Signed and dated lower ridht.
Provenance: Abraham Soloman Baylinson was born in Moscow, Russia on January 6, 1882. The Baylinson family moved to the United States around 1892. As a young man, Baylinson studied at the Art Students League of New York the National Academy of Design and the New York School of Art. While at the New York School of Art he trained under Robert Henri. He was secretary for the Society of Independent Artists from 1918-1934 and showed his work at the Society's shows from his joining in 1917 until 1942. Baylinson was an instructor of drawing and painting at the Art Students League from 1931-1933. He died on 6 May 1950 in New York City.
