Pastel on paper attached to stretcher, size 127 x 97 cm (50 x 38 1/4 inches), frame dimensions 160 x 130 cm (63 x 51 1/4 inches)
This artwork is the author's pastel version of the work in oil.
Presented at the Salon of 1879, this painting was a real success. He appeared on the front cover of the newspaper "L'Illustration" on September 20, 1879.Deposited by the State at the Brou Museum in Bourg-en-Bresse in 1926, this painting was part of the initial deposit of the Brou Museum at the Musée des pays de l'Ain in 1986. It was transferred to the Musées des pays de l'Ain in 1986. Ain (today management of the departmental museums of Ain) by decision of the National Fund for Contemporary Art in 1989 and has been managed since 2004 by the Musée d'Orsay.
