Hess, Charles Willard (1921-1998) lived in Long Beach / East Coast / San Francisco.Charles studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1940 with Millard Sheets and Rico Lebrun. He graduated from the Art Department of the University of California at Berkeley in 1955. He then taught at the Pasadena Art Institute and was an assistant professor at several respected universities on the East Coast.From 1962 to 1983 he was Professor and then Chairman of the Art Department at San Francisco State University, where he is currently Professor Emeritus of Art.
