Oil, wood, size 32 x 25 cm (12 2/3 x 9 3/4 inches).
This genre scene, executed in a style characteristic of the ‘Little Dutch’, depicts catching fleas in a man's hair, which requires good eyesight. ‘Sight’ is a scene from the “Five Senses” series painted by the famous artist Adriaan van Ostade, the original is now considered lost. The painting presented is superior to the copies, making it the most likely candidate to be called an original painting among the options available today.
