Lot Description
Irving George Lehman (1900-1983). Figures, the mid-20th century. Oil on canvas, size 91 x 18 cm (35 3/4 x 7 inches), frame dimensions 94 x 21 cm (37 x 8 1/4 inches). Signed lower left. (Irving George Lehman, painter, printmaker, designer, engraver and teacher, was born in 1900 in Kiev. Later coming to Brooklyn, New York. Studied at the Art Students League and Cooper Union and National Academy of Design New York City, eventually becoming a Member of the American Artists Congress, American Abstract Artists and other contemporary avant-garde groups. With many others he worked on the WPA. Exhibitions: Whitney Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois

He died in September 1983 in a nursing home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Lehman is listed in Who Was Who in American Art, and Mallett's Index of Artists).
