Bernard Gussow (1881-1957). Urban Landscape, 1st half of the 20th century. Oil on canvas, size 61 x 51 cm (24 x 20 inches). Frame dimensions 83 x 63 cm (32 2/3 x 24 3/4 inches). Signed lower right. (Painter Bernard Gussow was born in Russia in 1881, and died in New York City in 1957. From 1912, he was a teacher at the Newark, New Jersey School of Fine and Industrial Art, and he was active in the New York modernist artist scene, exhibiting at the landmark Armory Show of 1913 and with the Society of Independent Artists. He also showed his work during the 1930s and 1940s. Studied: CCNY, Art Student League, National Academy of Design and Ecole des Beaux Arts with Bonnet.Paris. Member: AEA, American Artists Congress and the Art League of America.
